A story might make you rethink a current problem. I am sure even watching a movie or television show with emotional themes can change your life, and makes you think twice about a trivial matter you were worried about.

Stories makes you feel things.

Stories can inspire emotions and bring out the best in you.

Stories can remind you that reflecting on deeper issues gives you perspective.

Stories can make you appreciate having an easier life than others; or a more difficult life than others.

Relating to characters in a story can lead you to a the realisation that your life is not as challenging as those characters. You might have it easier than the characters in the story; hence gain a deeper appreciation of your own life.

Without emotion in life, what is left? Robotic actions that cause you to move through life automatically without the joys and resilience of emotion.

Allow a story to immerse you into its wondrous journey of hope, love, challenges, and resolution. Most stories will have a problem solved in the end, and you can look forward to helping a character along the journey.
